Dr Mike Holliman from Smith-Root Inc, USA came over to present the training as our guest. Mike's relaxed and entertaining delivery style captured the attention of all 35 participants and held it for a full day of theory. His practical knowledge of electrofishing techniques for maximising the survival rate of captured fish is second to none.
On day 2 our participants headed into the field and had the opportunity to use and compare a range of electrofishing backpacks and boats as well as electroanaesthesia equipment.
The course was facilitated by Dr Tim Howell from Aquateco and we would like to thank Dr Tom Rayner (University NSW) and Andrew Bruce (NSW Fisheries) for their contributions. We would also like to thank David Roberts and SEQ Water for hosting the practical session at North Pine Dam.
